A Journeyman 3 is the senior level of licensed Journeyman Electrician.  Works under the guidance of a Foreman or Superintendent, and may oversee and direct the work of a crew of 1 to 5 helpers or apprentices in installations, alterations, additions, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment on any type project.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:          

A Journeyman 3 may be required to perform any of the duties and responsibilities associated with classifications E4.  In addition, a senior level Journeyman:

Interprets drawings and develops an overall crew work plan.

Lays out work and preps materials for installation.

Does rigging and job set ups for all tasks performed or supervised.

Performs underground layout and rough-in.

Determines wire and conduit sizing.

Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, threaders and hand or mechanical benders.

Installs BUSS feeders.

Performs switchgear installation and terminations.

Installs and connects power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.

Troubleshoots and resolves problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment.

Operates any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.

Understands and instructs assigned helpers in the safe operation of tools, use of equipment, electrical principles, and applicable codes.

Performs other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.

Meets attendance standards and complies with late/absence notification procedures.

Requires basic mechanical aptitude, mathematical and English language skills.  Must understand basic electrical theory and its application to installations.  Must be able to work occasional overtime as required.

Licenses:         Journeyman’s License, current Driver’s License and must have own reliable transportation.

           

Education:       High School Graduate, GED or equivalent.


Experience       Must have completed a qualified apprenticeship program and have over 8000    hours of on the job work experience.
